Things You Should Know
Why is good sleep so important?
We spend about one-third of our lives in bed. Deep, restful sleep is vital for the regeneration of our bodies. During sleep, the immune and nervous systems recover, metabolic processes run at highfull speed, and growth hormones are released. In short: Sleep is a fountain of youth for the body and mind.
What makes a good duvet?
A breathable duvet with downabsorbs body moisture released during sleep (up to half a liter of fluid per night) and releases it again when aired out in the morning. It also provides insulation, keeping the warmth in the bed constant without causing heat to build up. This is necessary because body temperature drops by about half a degree during sleep, and room temperature fluctuates at night. Combined with extra-light, breathable cotton batiste from certified organic cultivation, this creates a healthy sleeping environment and a wonderful sense of well-being in bed.
What makes a good pillow?
Pillows should be ergonomically designed to fit, support the head and neck, and relieve pressure on the spine. The elasticity and “support” of the feathern are crucial for a restful night’s sleep. Three-chamber pillows are very popular; they perfectly combine the qualities of soft, fluffy downn on the outside of the pillow with a supportive core made of feathern. Pure downn pillows are also becoming increasingly popular because they are unbeatable in terms of softness and fluffiness.
Why are downand featherso popular as filler materials on bedding?
There is no better climate control and temperature regulation system than the fine branches of downand feather, with their millions of air chambers. Their service life is unmatched! Furthermore, using them makes excellent ecological sense, as they are a valuable byproduct of the meat industry that would otherwise be discarded. By the way: The high-quality downand featherused in the Cradle-to-Cradleduvetand pillows come from free-range farm geese raised organically and are Downpass-certified.
What does “Cradle to Cradle” mean in the context of duvets and pillows?
This GOLD-standard certification ensures that all materials used can be fully traced back to their sources, as they are completely free of harmful substances (toxin-free) and 100 percent biodegradable. In addition, the certification guarantees safe and fair working conditions as well as the conservation of natural resources throughout the entire manufacturing process. Another component of the Cradle to Cradle certification is the Dorbena take-back system, which is unique in this form. For more information, visit Cradle to Cradle Products
What does the VSB SWISS QUAKITY DOWN seal of quality stand for?
This seal is awarded to members of the Swiss Association of beddingManufacturers who produce their goods in Switzerland or Liechtenstein and thereby meet strict Swiss standards. All materials are carefully selected by experts and subjected to the most rigorous quality tests.
What does Downpass certification mean at Dorbena?
In the interest of animal welfare, this certification guarantees that all downand feathercome from dead animals (no live plucking) and that the animals were not subjected to force-feeding during rearing. They are sourced exclusively from a small number of select retailers who are personally known and who can verify the origin, rearing conditions, and harvesting method at any time. The Downpass certification is part of the bedding with the VSB seal of quality.
How does the “Dorbena Return System” work?
All Cradle-to-Cradleduvets and pillows from the popular DOR® brand can be returned to Dorbena at the end of their useful life. The materials are inspected, and the filling and fabric are separated. Reusable downs and feathers are washed, dried, sorted, repackaged, and processed into finished, new recycled products. Non-reusable materials are industrially composted in an environmentally responsible manner. More information here
In what other ways does Dorbena show consideration for the environment?
All fabrics and fillings used by Dorbena are certified under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 (suitable for infants). Dorbena also prioritizes environmental protection in its manufacturing processes. The company sources its electricity from 100% renewable,CO2-free energy. Since 2010, the company’s own photovoltaic system has supplied approximately 50% of its electricity needs, with the remainder coming from eco-friendly hydropower. Heating is provided by district heating instead of oil-fired systems. The downn and feathern are rinsed with pure, on-site mountain spring water before sorting. During the washing process, all water protection regulations are observed, and only biodegradable detergent is used. The practical cases are reusable for storage or made from recycled cardboard.
Choose the right duvet using Warmth index
What is the " Warmth index"?
DORBENA AG beddinghas developed, in close collaboration with the NTB State highSchool of Technology in Buchs, a highly sensitive, computer-controlled measuring instrument for classifying duvets.
This classification—the heat index—takes into account and measures two key parameters that
determine the properties of a duvet:
• The heat retention capacity of the duvet
• The moisture absorption of the duvet
Together, these two parameters make it possible to classify the duvets into four categories for different needs. We have listed the heat index for each duvet.
Choose the Right Pillow with the Help of the Support strength index
What is the " Support strength index"?
Pillows are designed to support the head and thus relieve pressure on the cervical spine. Because the optimal level of support depends on individual sleeping habits, DORBENA has developed a support index that we provide for each pillow. Depending on the model, we offer our pillows with low, medium, high, and adjustable fill levels.
